“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am,
then I can change.”

-Carl Rogers

My Approach

Welcome to my practice web site. I offer in-person psychotherapy sessions at my Brookhaven/Atlanta office, and virtual sessions for clients located in Georgia. I work with high-functioning adults (26+) who are:

  • Navigating a situational or stage-of-life stressor

  • Grieving a loss

  • Struggling in relationships

  • Feeling anxious, stuck, or disconnected

  • Seeking ongoing mental health hygiene and personal growth

I also see a limited number of clients for focused trauma work.

Many of us benefit from professional support in attuning to ourselves, exploring our challenges, broadening our perspective, and clarifying what matters most. In our work together, we slow down—paying attention not only to thoughts, but also to emotions and embodied sensations. I balance deep, active listening with thoughtful reflections and questions to help you expand awareness of yourself, your relational patterns, and the contexts influencing your life. I value the eight “Cs”—calm, curiosity, compassion, clarity, courage, connectedness, creativity, and confidence—and strive to cultivate them (imperfectly!) in my own life and in my work with clients. As we build your capacity to “notice and wonder,” you may find yourself becoming less reactive and more responsive. Together, we work toward healing old wounds, developing new ways of coping, and moving forward in valued directions.

Many of my clients have worked with me for five years or more and appreciate having a consistent, long-term source of support. I incorporate person-centered, existential, and mindfulness-based approaches to therapy with parts work and somatics. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and utilize this modality to help clients address trauma and stuck points.

If this resonates with you, I welcome you to inquire about availability and fit.

“As you start to walk on the way,
the way appears.”

SERVICES

Finding a therapist you connect with can be one of the hardest steps in your journey of healing and growth. Whether you are feeling stuck or anxious, navigating a stressful life event, grieving a loss, or seeking support as you unpack your experiences, I provide a compassionate, emotionally attuned space for exploration, reflection, and meaningful forward movement. Please contact me for a complimentary phone consultation if you would like to learn more; together we can assess whether I might be helpful to you.

Life Stage Adjustment

Change -- even positive change -- can feel overwhelming or disorienting. Shifting roles, rules and expectations can impact our internal and external worlds. Together we can navigate significant, stressful, or abrupt life transitions such as career change, relocation, pursuing an advanced degree as an adult, relationship changes, empty nest, aging, retirement, and caregiving. I help clients identify and fully acknowledge the primary and secondary impacts of change. It can be a relief to transform hidden assumptions, unspoken expectations and tacit knowledge into clear, verbalized information. From there we process associated emotions, find ways to manage stress, and foster positive adjustment.

Grief

To be human is to experience loss, whether mourning a death or grieving a disruption of identity, role, or relationship. Grief is a natural, human response to loss, and you don’t have to face it alone. Together we can help your mind, body and spirit come to terms with loss, adjust to the new reality, foster enduring connections, and reorient in meaningful directions.

Personal Growth

Flourishing: Sometimes it feels like we are gliding confidently through life, engaging and growing in new and welcomed ways. If this is what you are experiencing, you may want a supportive space to digest and integrate these transformations. We can also work on pacing your momentum so that you remain grounded and centered.

Feeling stuck: At other times we can feel stuck – anxious and overwhelmed, or shutdown and disconnected from our sense of vitality. Working together, we can explore your values and sense of meaning, identify/address internal and external obstacles, and catalyze forward movement in directions that are meaningful to you.

Mental Health Hygiene

By mental health hygiene, I mean ongoing care that cultivates emotional balance, self-awareness, and resilience—much like tending to physical health over time. Being human can involve a lot of “doing.” Therapy helps us balance “doing” with the complementary states of being and reflecting, promoting positive mental health.

About Me

Stephanie Foxman, MS, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

I became a therapist after experiencing firsthand, over many years, the value of being in therapy myself, and I find deep meaning in offering that same support to others. I understand what it’s like to sit on the couch, and I strive to create a comfortable, supportive, and respectful environment. I believe therapy works best when it takes place in a space that feels both professional and deeply human. It’s so important that we each feel seen, heard, appreciated and encouraged in our lives!

I have been in practice since 2014. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia and a member of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia (LPCAGA). I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University.

Prior to opening my private practice, I served at Mercer University’s Student Counseling Center, providing individual and group therapy, and at the Care and Counseling Center of Georgia, where I offered individual and couples counseling, facilitated a long-term grief group, and provided yoga for mental health to both clients and staff.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years in corporate communications and marketing. Because of this background, I often “click” with business professionals and others navigating high-achievement environments, workplace stress, or career transitions.

I am a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher (Level 2) and a Certified Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists. I practice yoga for inner balance, and I enjoy supporting clients who are exploring formal and informal mindfulness disciplines.

I live and work near Emory University and find it rewarding to work with Emory faculty, staff and advanced degree students. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy checking out the Atlanta arts scene, reading modern literary fiction and memoirs, working on easy jigsaw puzzles, and streaming while wrapped in a soft, cozy blanket.

“There is always light if only we’re brave enough to see it,
if only we’re brave enough to be it.”

Fees

My fee is $170 per 45–50 minute session.

Insurance

I am no longer an in-network insurance provider. However, I can provide a “superbill” that you can submit to your insurance company if you wish to pursue out-of-network reimbursement. You will need to contact your insurance provider directly to determine your out-of-network benefits. Be sure to ask about your deductible, reimbursement rate, and any applicable limits.

Right to Receive a Good Faith Estimate of Expected Charges

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

Health care providers and facilities must provide patients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance with an estimate of the expected charges for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs such as medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your scheduled service or item. You can also request a Good Faith Estimate from any provider before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

Make sure to save a copy or take a picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your rights, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
